Bamberger, Dorothy The family of Dorothy Ruth Shimon Bamberger publishes this remembrance to celebrate her life and honor her passing on August 14, 2008. Born on September 26, 1928, Dorothy was the second daughter of Max J. and Lorraine (Kitz) Shimon. She is survived by her sister Arlene J. (Shimon) Mann. Her brother, David Shimon, died before she was born. Dorothy married her childhood sweetheart and for 56 years was the loving wife of and life companion to James A. Bamberger of Whitefish Bay WI. She was the mother of six children, five of whom survive her and through whom she lives on: Judy Bamberger (Canberra, Australia), Jill Dizack (Glendale, WI), Jim Bamberger (Olympia WA), Jeff Bamberger (Brookfield WI), and Julie Bamberger (Pasadena CA). She was the mother-in-law/extended-mother to Bram van Oosterhout, Robert Dizack, Janine (LaPorte) Bamberger and Michael Roubik. Dorothy loved and was loved by her eight grandchildren: Jennifer (Bamberger) Putnam (Ventura CA), Aaron Dizack (Goodyear AZ), Nowell Bamberger (Spokane WA), Kristin Bamberger (Astoria NY), Philip Dizack (Manhattan NY), Matthew Bamberger (Brookfield WI), Daniel Bamberger (Spokane WA) and Ellen Bamberger (Spokane WA). She enjoyed spending time with each of them whenever and wherever she could. Dorothy is also survived by her special friend of 14 years, Cocker Spaniel, Cocoa. Family was the central focus of Dorothy’s life; her greatest joy was to be with her husband, children and grandchildren. Through example, Dorothy taught her family the importance of ethical and honest living, placing the needs of others first, responsibility to community, frugality, music and the arts, and the special power of unconditional love. Those whose lives Dorothy touched knew her as a giver, supporter, champion and defender. She could light up a room with her smile and sense of humor; and she was never known to withhold her opinion on matters that were important to her. A passionate lover of the arts, Dorothy and her husband Jim volunteered for years with the Florentine Opera, the staff and members of which became her “second family.” She and Jim founded the Jim and Dorothy Bamberger Education Fund to support the Florentine’s outreach efforts to local schools. Dorothy was a gifted artisan in her own right, mastering a high level of sophistication in hand-knitting, crocheting and sewing. She was a dog lover and breeder, and was never without a canine companion. Finding great joy in nature, Dorothy was an avid bird watcher and gardener, and loved being near mountains. Dorothy visited all 50 states and many other locations throughout the world. Funeral Services 1:00 PM Monday, August 18, 2008 at the Funeral Home. Interment Greenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, we welcome others to join in celebrating Dorothy’s life by making contributions to: The Jim and Dorothy Bamberger Education Fund; c/o Florentine Opera 700 N.
